Sending Turkologists to Places of Duty

Yunus Emre Institute has been lending academic support to Turkish teaching and Turkey Studies and is now preparing to send qualified guest academics who have proven record in the field of Turkology from Turkey to their places of duty. 

Yunus Emre Institute not only sends directly guest academics (Turkologists) from Turkey to abroad within the framework of the Turkology Cooperation Project conducted with various universities around the world, but also works in conjunction with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Ministry of National Education (MEB), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other stakeholders for making assignments in many countries. The Institute is currently sending more than 30 Turkologists on assignment to 23 universities in 12 countries for the academic year 2019-2020. The academics selected meticulously in cooperation with the YÖK for assignment in Afghanistan, Algeria, Ethiopia, Gambia, India, Qatar, Pakistan, Senegal, Sudan, Jordan, Somalia, and Mauritania will be briefed about the functioning of the Institute and teaching Turkish as a foreign language at a meeting to be held between September 23 and 24, 2019.

Attending the opening ceremony held on Monday, September 23, Turkish Language Society (TDK) President Prof. Dr. Gürer Gülsevin indicted that the international recognition of Turkish is on the rise as Yunus Emre Institute is working hard to make it accessible by every individual from all walks of life around the globe. Gülsevin noted that the Turkologists will be sent to various countries where they will represent Turkish nation and identity. She promised to lend support to the academics for their material needs.

In his keynote speech, Institute President Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş emphasized that Turkey has great horizons and visions. Noting that the Institute is seeking to increase the number of people who forge bonds with, and are friendly to, Turkey all around the world, Ateş indicated that the project in question aims not only teach Turkish, but also cherish diversity. He stressed that it is important to learn while teaching.

The Institute is not only providing Turkish teaching courses and organizing events to promote the Turkish culture and art at its cultural centers around the world, but also has inked Turkology cooperation agreements with 100 universities in 50 countries. Under the said agreements, the Institute is sending academics from the Turkish language and literature departments at the universities in Turkey to these universities upon demand, and lends support to local Turkologists in their field studies. The Institute also organizes certificate programs for the training of trainers through special projects for raising qualified local Turkologists at the Turkology Summer Schools, jointly organized with various universities in Turkey. The Institute further sends auxiliary Turkish teaching materials, including the Institute's set of teaching Turkish as a foreign language, and literary works as well as other books and educational materials to the libraries of the centers of Turkology or Turkey Studies at universities in foreign countries.
